Years ago, we partnered with our friends at a very famous Irish Beer company to hype our St. Patrick’s day celebration. We were at a bar that wasn’t necessarily an Irish pub, but we were close enough to get some traction out of the Holiday. And St. Patrick’s Day, when everyone is a little Irish, is a great day for food and beverage if you market it correctly. We contacted our local rep for that famous Irish stout and they were thrilled to help us promote it. We asked for their famous beer glasses and soon had 144 beautiful classic Guinness pint glasses (oops, I gave it away!) They were the classic style made famous in Ireland. They also sent us a case of great T-shirts that we distributed to the staff and were able to use as giveaways. A couple of hats and some other items and we were ready to party.
We created a few menu items that gave us an “Irish” feel and because we had a nitrogen system, we were pouring the perfect Guinness Pints. We made it a St. Patrick’s day weekend and extended all of the specials all weekend long. Every hour during dinner service we drew names for swag and prizes. Sometimes just a free beer! We made the glasses available to keep for an additional charge, so for $17.00 dollars, (March 17 th ) you got a Guinness and got to keep the glass. The place was hopping and even though we weren’t a classic Irish Pub, we got our fair share of business. The folks from Guinness loved us because we were helping to sell the “Brand.” The staff loved us because we were busy and they got a free T-shirt. The customers loved us because we had neat swag and really cool glasses. And our accountant loved us because everything that we were giving away was given to us free of charge.
